Soulocentric Festival's Calgary 2012 Showcase

It has been quite a year in Calgary’s independent performing arts scene with so many new opportunities for Calgary artists to create new works celebrating this great city. The Soulocentric Festival will be entering its 8th year this October and with the increased creative energy amongst Calgary’s dance, theatre and music community we want to expand this year’s festival to include additional Calgary 2012 showcase events at this year’s festival . 

The Soulocentric Festival is a three day event at Vertigo Studio Theatre providing local independent artists creating solo performance a chance to strut their stuff. We provide opportunities to Calgary’s (and Alberta’s) emerging artists to present new, self-created, solo-based performances in contemporary/urban dance, dramatic theatre, comedy, physical theatre, classical and contemporary music and much more. 

The Grassroots Inspired Grant will allow us to add two more days to the festival allowing us to almost double the amount of artists' applications we can currently accomodate.  These days will be dedicated to the artists who have been creating new performance that celebrates Calgary as the culture capitol for 2012. The grant will cover the added venue and production expenses that will come with increasing the three day festival to a five day festival running Oct. 2-6.

For Calgary’s public, the Festival is an opportunity to witness our city’s next generation of artists and see what talent they have to offer. Through our diverse programming (including both full length and short performances) the festival aims to expose theatre lovers to dance, dance lovers to music, music lovers to theatre, and art lovers to their very own uniquely Calgarian arts scene.
