Project title: “Sharing our Sacred Spaces”  Bus Tours

 Location of project:

Various religious venues throughout the city (Jewish, Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist and Sikh), concluding at Cardel Place (See Tours on link below)

Have you ever passed by someone else’s place of worship and wondered what  it’s like inside? How is it used? What are the people like? Much of Calgary’s Cultural Heritage stems from our various faith communities. To be invited into someone’s Sacred Space is a privilege and an honour.

To celebrate the Harvest/Thanksgiving season, we invite you to join one of our 6 SACRED SPACES BUS TOURS to spend a Sunday afternoon visiting 2 different religious venues, followed by a multifaith program of dance, song and refreshments at Cardel Place. Each hosting faith community will share their rituals /festivals related to the harvest or thanksgiviing and explain how their venue is used by the community. Compassion is another theme for discussion.  Come join the tours!

We had 5 school buses taking multifaith groups of people to 2 different religious venues each and then all meeting at Cardel place for a multifaith Thanksgiving/Harvest Festival service and food reception. The comments from our guests were most favorable:"A wonderful spiritual day! Would love to do this again!";"A fantastic way to learn about a variety of faiths";"Great spiritual day for families";"Loved seeing "sacred spaces", listening to the music and watching dancing and sharing food.Great day! Let's do more!" We will add these names to our contact list for our monthly meetings, which they should enjoy attending. However, they will need to find their own transportation. Perhaps we can make the Sacred Spaces Bus tours an annual Thanksgiving/Harvest event, to give more people the wonderful opportunity to experience the faiths and cultures that make up our Calgary community. Approximately 150 people attended our tours. Thanks to GIGYYC for supporting our initiative.
