We are a group of peace-loving Calgarians who have created a local grassroots movement called The Summer of Peace Calgary 2012, (www.facebook.com/SummerofPeaceCalgary)in support of a worldwide movement to create a peaceful world for all. One of our first initiatives was to petition and obtain Calgary’s designation as an International City of Peace and we invite you to join our celebration at the Inglewood Community Centre on June 22nd at 7 p.m. We are seeking GIGYYC funding in order to create a video-documentary that we will post on our website, our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/SummerofPeaceCalgary), and on YouTube. We are calling it: Peace Between Us – the Power of Possibility. Peace is, of course, all about our relationships to others. Peace begins in our own hearts and then from there can extend to our homes, to our communities and beyond. Our video will tell the stories of Calgarians who are creating Acts of Peace. It will demonstrate the power of the possibilities of peaceful relationships. An Act of Peace could be as simple as a handshake, two children sharing, a teacher helping a student; a stranger comforting an elderly woman, a passerby stopping to listen to a homeless man. The documentary will celebrate and become a visual legacy of Calgary’s heritage as a welcoming, compassionate and democratic society, by documenting the acts of Peace that Calgarians are so well known for. It will serve as a foundational work for others to build on and take forward. Our goal is to inspire a million Acts of Peace We are a group of volunteers, so if we receive a GIGYYC grant, we would use it to help pay for the services of a professional videographer/editor. If you are or know a peacemaker, or if you are interested in learning more about The Summer of Peace, you are welcome to contact Howard Parsons by email at: parsons.howard@gmail.com or on our Facebook page at: www.facebook.com/SummerofPeaceCalgary.
