ABOUT THE SHOW
The LP Series is a collection of shows that feature improvised interpretations of classic musical albums. The performances will use audience suggestions, musical inspirations and spur of the moment thinking to paint a portrait of what the albums could be if they were the soundtrack of a play. For one night, they will be. A different classic album will be improvised each month at the Birds and Stone Theatre beginning on November 24, 2012 and continuing until March 30th 2013.
ABOUT MIXTAPE
Mixtape is a group comprised of top performers from all of Calgary's major improv houses including The Improv Guild, Loose Moose, Kinkonauts, Dirty Laundry and One Lions. Blending their diverse styles together to create something unique and special in the Calgary theatre scene is one of the major goals of Mixtape. The other goal is to explore new and interesting formats of improvisation and push the artform in new directions.
ABOUT THE GRANT
If Mixtape receives this grant, we would dedicate six hundred dollars to artist fees, providing the support necessary for professional improvisers to hone their craft in Calgary. Four hundred dollars would be allocated for theatre and rehearsal space rental fees and two hundred dollars for advertising and printing costs.
The theme of this project connects to Calgary Now, as it demonstrates Calgary's strong and growing dedication to the art of improvisation. The coming-together of artists of differing improvisational backgrounds shows the variety and quality of improv theatre in this city. As an artform that has often lived in the shadow of other major theatre styles, this grant will help us show Calgary that its improv scene is vibrant and thriving.
