The Chinatown's back alleys are often seen as dark, seedy, and not a place people would hang out. In 2011, CCCSA with help from local artists and community members was able to successfully complete 4 separate and unique murals inside one of the back alleys.
As part of a Back Alley Clean-up Initiative, we invite local artists to participate in our 'Back Alley Art Cafe' on August 11, 2012. This community art event provides local artists an excellent opportunity to network with the public, their colleagues, and friends. There is no exhibitor fee. Through the event, we hope we can bring great attention to the alley and get people to start thinking about the space in a different way.
We are working hard to make this an exciting community art event. Join us on August 11, 2012 between 10 am and 8 pm. Admission is free!
The grant funding will go towards insurance, art supplies and rental of tents, performing stage and sound system. Thank you for your support!

What a fun event! Our counter indicated 2625 people entered the back alley but I believed it was more. On behalf of all of us at CCCSA, we thank Calgary 2012 for their recent contribution of $1200. We are extremely grateful for their generosity. Calgary 2012 rocks!

What a wonderful project! I agree that this project would truly bring people together: people who love art, people who will travel to our city, people who work and volunteer for Chinatown and the Chinese community in Calgary, and people from all across the city (from all walks of life). I'm excited!

It is a very successful event. We hear comments like, 'When will you have the next event here, next week?' and 'The back alley is renewed, revitalized.' I would like to thank Calgary 2012 for supporting our project.
