Have you ever wondered what happens when readers, writers and animators come together to experience the power of story? WordFest invites Calgarians to encounter literature differently at a fun outdoor screening of animated stories and word-based art, projected on the surface of a building in the East Village WordFest is a non-profit arts organization that brings readers and writers together through a premier international writers festival and year-round literary events in Calgary, Banff and the Bow Valley. In October, WordFest presents an annual six-day literary festival that features more than 70 writers from the local, national and international stage and hosts more than 60 events. This year, WordFest will partner with the Quickdraw Animation Society and GIRAF Animation Festival to project a series of animated short films that either take reading and writing as themes, or showcase what is possible when animation and literature mix and mingle. An objective of the project is to celebrate Calgary’s contemporary identity through an exploration of alternative ways of encountering literature, poetry and words. It will also be an opportunity for animators to share their work with new audiences and receive recognition for their contribution to the vibrant cultural life of the city. Funds will be used to cover the marketing and production costs of screening the films as well as artists fees.
